Yuzen is an ancient dyeing technique invented by Miyazaki Yuzensai of Kyoto in the middle of Edo period around 1700.
This technique of using woodblock to print patterns was originally developed for the production of kimono fabric.
Entering the 20th century, the traditional cloth printing studios of Japan began to apple yuzen patterns to paper as well.
Today, there are still 10,000+ classic yuzen patterns well preserved in the world!
